June 2011 Grant Awards
The Foundation Provided $14,821.00 in Grant Funding in June 2011
- Dudley Elementary School ELMOS - Enhanced Learning & Metacognition Opportunities for Students. Three document cameras will be purchased for students to study minerals, view maps, construct math tables, and much more.
- Heritage School leveled Reading Room - A collection of leveled books will be purchased to support instruction across the curriculum at each grade level.
- Dudley Middle School 'Unity is Harmony' - $500 will commission music by Shepherd Hill alumnus and UMass graduate Thomas Wilson. The work will be performed for the public by the Charlton Middle School, Dudley Middle School & Shepherd Hill bands in early 2012.
- Dudley Middle School Mentoring Program - The mentoring program will be enhanced to include a summer confidence camp so that students stay engaged and connected to DMS over the summer.
- Dudley Middle School Reading Advancements - To enhance the reading program, a variety of books on DVD as well as listening devices will be purchased so students may listen as they read along themselves. An ELMO (document camera) will assist the teacher in facilitating discussions about the books students read.
- Charlton Middle School Math Review and Gifted Math Project - The sharing of four iPads will further provide differentiated instruction in the upper grades.
- Shepherd Hill Regional High School Environmental Testing Using Vernier Sensors (Spiewak Family Grant) - The purchase of testing equipment will afford greater club participation to analyze local soil and water samples. The equipment will also be used in regular science classes.
- Shepherd Hill Regional High School Smart Music - Funding will purchase equipment and annual subscriptions and licenses for access to over 30,000 song files and 50,000 exercises. Software will provide immediate and documented feedback on individual student performances, measuring pitch and rhythm.
